Univision anchor: Trump behaved like a dictator

Univision anchor Jorge Ramos says Donald Trump behaved like a tin-pot dictator when he kicked the newsman out of his press conference in Iowa on Tuesday.

“I’ve been a journalist for 30 years, and I’ve never been ejected from any press conference anywhere in the world,” Ramos told Megyn Kelly on Fox News’s “The Kelly File” on Wednesday night.

“Those are the things that you see in dictatorships, not in the United States of America.”

{mosads}Ramos, the host of “AMERICA with Jorge Ramos,” said Trump wanted to “silence” the Latino anchor because he did not want to answer Ramos’s difficult questions on immigration.

“He tried to silence me,” Ramos said. “And in this country, you cannot do that. I am a U.S. citizen, I am an immigrant, I am a reporter and I have the right in this country to ask any question I want to whomever I want.”

Ramos also called for journalists to stand up to Trump.

“As journalists, Megyn, with all due respect, I think we have to take a stand when it comes to racism, discrimination, corruption, public lies, dictatorships and human rights,” he said. “And when he’s expressing those really dangerous words, we have to confront them — that’s our job, to ask tough questions, even if he doesn’t like it.”

Trump kicked Ramos out of a news conference Tuesday after the television anchor interrupted a reporter on whom Trump had called.

“Excuse me, sit down, you weren’t called,” Trump said to Ramos. “Go back to Univision.”

Ramos continued to ask his question before a security guard escorted him out of the room.

Trump called the behavior “absolutely out of line.”

Ramos, who has dual citizenship with the U.S. and Mexico, described his confrontation with Trump as “personal.”

“It is extreme what he is saying about immigrants in this country,” he said. “This is not just his country. It is our country, too.”

Ramos is the chief news anchor for Univision, a Spanish-language television network that canceled Trump’s “Miss Universe” pageant earlier this year amid his controversial comments on immigration.

Trump is suing the network for $500 million over the pageant.
