Elon Musk says he is considering ‘quitting’ his jobs, becoming ‘influencer’

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Thursday said that he is considering “quitting” his jobs and becoming an “influencer.”

“Thinking of quitting my jobs & becoming an influencer full-time wdyt,” Musk tweeted, using shorthand for “what do you think?”

Musk went on to respond to one user who suggested he make an OnlyFans account with, “Maybe i will …”

OnlyFans is a subscription-based platform where original content can be uploaded by users, including adult-content creators.

It is possible that Musk’s tweets violate a court-ordered policy that company lawyers must preapprove his tweets following a 2018 settlement in which Tesla and Musk both had to pay $20 million over a tweet he wrote about his company being potentially bought out, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The Journal reported in June that records they had obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request indicated that he violated that social media policy in 2019 and 2020.

In letters to Tesla, the Securities and Exchange Commission said that tweets discussing the stock price of Tesla and solar roof production had not been properly preapproved in 2019 and 2020, according to the newspaper.

Musk’s tweets have also stirred up controversy among lawmakers. In November, Musk asked followers if they supported him in a proposal to sell 10 percent of his Tesla stock, which appeared to be responding to a proposal released by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) earlier this year that would tax billionaires.

“Much is made lately of unrealized gains being a means of tax avoidance, so I propose selling 10% of my Tesla stock. Do you support this?” Musk asked in a poll posted on Twitter in early November.

“Whether or not the world’s wealthiest man pays any taxes at all shouldn’t depend on the results of a Twitter poll. It’s time for the Billionaires Income Tax,” Wyden, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said later that evening.
