Twitter turns over official White House handles to Biden administration

Twitter officially turned over the institutional White House accounts to the Biden administration on Wednesday.

President Biden will now have access to the @POTUS account and Vice President Harris will have @VP. Accounts for the White House, press secretary and spouses of the new leaders are also being transferred.

Former President Trump and his administration’s institutional accounts will be archived.

Biden and his team have had to build the followings of their institutional accounts from zero over the past week, while Trump inherited followers from the previous administration.

The president’s new account cleared 1 million followers on Wednesday shortly after he was sworn in. His personal Twitter account has nearly 25 million followers.
