Goldman Sachs employee placed on paid leave for Trump contributions

A Goldman Sachs employee has been placed on paid administrative leave for contributing to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. 

Luke Thorburn, who made two donations totaling $534.58 and is involved with a website selling hats with a slogan he trademarked, “Make Christianity Great Again,” failed to get approval from the investment bank before pursuing outside business ventures, The New York Times has reported.

{mosads}Goldman Sachs put Thorburn on leave after he was highlighted in an NYT article as the bank’s only contributor to Trump’s campaign.

Thorburn’s hats are a play off of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” caps.

Sources told the NYT that Thorburn made inconsistent statements about his association to the website leading to the disciplinary action. 

Goldman, which has been leading Wall Street firms in contributing to presidential campaigns, have sent most of their contributions to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) — more than $199,000 — while $94,000 has gone to Democrat Hillary Clinton. 

Trump has argued that he is largely self-funding his own campaign and isn’t seeking donations from Wall Street or anyone else even though he has contributions pouring into his election coffers from individual donors.
