House Republican: We’ve got to get the politics out of FBI

Greg Nash

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) on Sunday called for the Department of Justice and the FBI to remove any possible partisan bias.

“I think the important thing is that, we’ve got to clean up, if you will, the standards at the FBI and Department of Justice. Get the politics out of it,” Issa told Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.”

{mosads}Issa’s remarks come as some on the right have tried to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russia’s election meddling and any potential ties between Trump campaign staff and Moscow.

The investigation has recently faced scrutiny following a report that Mueller removed an agent, Peter Strzok, after learning that he sent anti-Trump text messages during the 2016 campaign.

Issa suggested a special prosecutor to investigate the perceived bias or “special powers for the inspector general” tasked with overseeing the Justice Department.
