Trump chides Cramer for apologizing after calling Pelosi ‘crazy Nancy’

President Trump on Wednesday chided CNBC’s Jim Cramer after he apologized for calling House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) “crazy Nancy” to her face during a live interview, saying that the TV host didn’t “make a mistake” and was only repeating what is “true.” 

“Jim, you didn’t make a mistake. It’s true, and that’s why you said it. No pandering!” Trump tweeted, sharing a video of Cramer apologizing Tuesday evening.

In a live interview with Pelosi about ongoing coronavirus relief negotiations, Cramer addressed the Speaker as “crazy Nancy” — a phrase that the president often uses to refer to Pelosi — before attempting to correct himself, saying he has “such high reverence for the office, I would never use that term.” Pelosi was quick to note that he did, in fact, use the phrase. 

Cramer’s gaffe was met with a torrent of criticism on social media, with some calling it sexist and disrespectful. 

“I made a very stupid comment. It was a tongue-and-cheek attempt to make a point about the harsh tone about the negotiations in Washington but it fell completely flat, and I apologize for that,” Cramer said Tuesday. 

On Wednesday, Trump also shared a video of the original exchange between Cramer and Pelosi on CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” that captures the television personality calling Pelosi “crazy.” 

Trump has repeatedly used the phrase to attack Pelosi, with whom he has an ice-cold relationship, particularly in the wake of the House’s move to impeach him last winter. 

Trump is known for his harsh attacks on political opponents and former aides, and he has flung ugly and controversial insults against women leading up to and throughout his term as president.
