Spike Lee is set to direct a multi-episode ESPN documentary about Colin Kaepernick that provides “a full, first-person account” on the former NFL quarterback.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback is collaborating closely with Lee on the documentary, ESPN spokeswoman Isabelle Lopez said in a statement

Lee plans to incorporate new interviews and “a vast never-before-seen archive” to tell Kaepernick’s story.

Former ESPN personality Jemele Hill is also partnering with Kaepernick and Lee on the project, according to ESPN. The documentary’s title and release date have yet to be announced.

Kaepernick has not played for the NFL since 2016, when he garnered widespread attention for kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice in the U.S.
