Neil Young calls on Spotify to remove his music over ‘fake’ vaccine information

Rock legend Neil Young this week demanded that his music be removed from Spotify after accusing the streaming service of circulating “fake” information about vaccines.

“I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines — potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” Young wrote in a letter to his record label and management team, according to Rolling Stone. “Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule.”

“I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform. They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both,”  Young continued in the letter, referencing the platform’s streaming of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

The letter, which was reportedly posted to his website, has since been deleted.

The Hill has reached out to Spotify for comment.

A coalition of 270 doctors and science educators earlier this month called for Spotify to take action against “The Joe Rogan Experience,” noting its content.

“By allowing the propagation of false and societally harmful assertions, Spotify is enabling its hosted media to damage public trust in scientific research and sow doubt in the credibility of data-driven guidance offered by medical professionals,” they wrote in an open letter.

The health care professionals noted that Rogan has immense influence and pointed to a controversial episode that featured Robert Malone, a virologist who they said promotes misinformation about COVID-19.

Experts have criticized the remarks during the episode regarding the pandemic and how the coronavirus impacts people, especially younger individuals.
