Jill Biden visits Capitol to thank National Guard

First lady Jill Biden is thanking the National Guard stationed at the Capitol, who also protected it during President Biden’s inauguration, with a batch of baked goods.

Biden made an unannounced stop at the Capitol Friday on her way back from a visit to Washington’s Whitman-Walker Health center.

She presented some of the troops with a basket of chocolate chip cookies as a thank-you gift, according to a White House press pool report.

“The National Guard will always hold a special place in the hearts of all the Bidens,” the first lady, sporting a face mask, told about two dozen service members.

The president’s late son, Beau Biden, served in the Delaware National Guard.

About 25,000 National Guardsmen were deployed to Washington to assist with security ahead of Wednesday’s presidential inauguration following the deadly riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6.

During her stop, Biden was reportedly handed what appeared to be a challenge coin, before posing for group photos with the troops. The service members then uttered a “hooah” in salute.

Several lawmakers have been snapped delivering food and other goodies in recent days to the service members at the Capitol. Reps. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.) and Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) served up pizzas, while Reps. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) and Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) offered free coffee and donuts.
