Gap reports sales spike for khakis worn by MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki

MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki reportedly prompted a spike in sales for the khakis he wore while reporting on election results.

Kornacki had confirmed on air that his khakis were from the Gap.

“I’ve got a bunch of them,” he told NBC’s Savannah Sellers, noting that he wore them around the clock while reporting nearly non-stop from Tuesday through Saturday last week.

After the clothing brand drew increased publicity, the retailer saw a “dramatic increase in online traffic and within a day, we saw around 90% unit sale increase online,” a spokesperson told the Today Show.

Kornacki and other news hosts such as CNN’s John King, who spent hours on air explaining electoral maps last week, were dubbed “Chartthrobs” by some Twitter users. Many journalists on Twitter, including Kornacki’s own network, recommended the tie he wore on air be donated to the Smithsonian.

There’s no word yet on whether the pants might deserve their own honor.

Kornacki, clad in his khakis, thanked viewers for their social media messages in a video released by MSNBC last Wednesday.
