Mark Hamill strikes back at Cruz: Thanks for ‘smarm-spaining’ net neutrality to me

Mark Hamill struck back at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) after Cruz tried to use the actor’s “Star Wars” movies to defend net neutrality.

“Luke, I know Hollywood can be confusing, but it was Vader who supported govt power over everything said & done on the Internet. That’s why giant corps (Google, Facebook, Netflix) supported the FCC power grab of net neutrality,” Cruz tweeted at Hamill earlier Sunday, using the wrong Twitter handle to direct the tweet at the actor.

“Reject the dark side: Free the net!”

The actor quickly responded, telling Cruz, “Thanks for smarm-spaining it to me.”

Hamill was referring to Cruz’s official Twitter account “liking” a porn video earlier this year. Cruz blamed the incident on a “staffing issue.”

Hamill had criticized Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai on Saturday for invoking Star Wars in a video defending the FCC’s repeal of net neutrality rules, calling Pai “profoundly unworthy” of using a lightsaber.

The Republican-led FCC voted 3-2 on Thursday, along party lines, to repeal the Obama-era net neutrality rules, which require internet service providers to treat all web traffic equally.
