Hillary camp hits Republicans for ‘wacky misinterpretations’ of ‘Princess Bride’

Hillary Clinton’s Democratic presidential campaign is targeting her GOP White House rivals by invoking the 1987 movie “The Princess Bride.”

{mosads}In a gif-filled blog post on Clinton’s campaign website on Thursday, the former secretary of State’s camp listed a myriad of ways it claims Republicans “take some of their policies from wacky misrepresentations of ‘The Princess Bride.’”

Clinton’s campaign compares what it calls the GOP’s plan for “tax cuts for the rich” to a scene featuring the swashbuckling character Inigo Montoya, sword in hand, demanding an opponent “offer me money.”

The movie, which debuted more than 25 years ago, is proving to be majorly quotable throughout the 2016 White House race.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has long professed his love of “The Princess Bride,” and even reenacted a scene from the cult classic during an interview last month. “Homeland” actor Mandy Patinkin, who starred as Montoya, told The New York Times that Cruz doesn’t fully comprehend the meaning of the movie.

And during Tuesday night’s Republican presidential debate, Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) took a swipe at Cruz by referencing one of the film’s characters, Princess Buttercup.

In the Clinton post, the campaign writes, “Help elect a president who’ll fight harder than the Dread Pirate Roberts to make sure all Americans have a chance to get ahead, no matter what they look like, where they come from, or who they love.”

Underneath, a nodding image of Cary Elwes, who plays a dreamy farm boy named Westley, says, “As you wish.”
