Michael Moore to Trump: ‘We are all Muslim’

Filmmaker Michael Moore is calling for solidarity against GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the U.S.

“I was raised to believe that we are all each other’s brother and sister, regardless of race, color or creed,” he wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday evening. “That means if you want to ban all Muslims, you are first going to have to ban me and everyone else.

{mosads}“We are all Muslim. Just as we are all Mexican, we are all Catholic and Jewish and white and black and every shade in between. We are all children of God (or nature, or whatever you believe in), part of the human family, and nothing you can say or do can change that fact one iota.”

The liberal director then argued that Trump’s proposed policy is out of touch with the nation’s values.

“Here we are in 2015, and, like many other angry white guys, you are frightened by a bogeyman who is out to get you,” Moore wrote. “That boogeyman, in your mind, are all Muslims. Not just the ones who have killed, but ALL Muslims.

“Fortunately, Donald, you and your supporters are no longer what America actually is today,” he said. “We are not a country of angry white guys.

“If you don’t like living by these American rules, then you need to go to the time-out room in any one of your towers, sit there, and think about what you’ve said. Leave the rest of us alone so that we can elect a real president who is both compassionate and strong.”

Moore also said that he protested outside Trump Tower in New York City late Wednesday evening with a sign bearing the slogan “We Are All Muslim.”

Moore is now launching a social media campaign across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter aimed at promoting the rallying cry. He wants users to send photos bearing that line so that he can personally send a compilation of them to Trump.

Trump’s call for a temporary ban on admitting Muslims within America’s borders has sparked international debate. He has repeatedly defended the measure as necessary for preventing jihadist terrorism within the U.S.

The outspoken billionaire remains the Republican front-runner by a wide margin despite controversy over his plan. He leads his competition by nearly 17 points, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
