John Krasinski’s ‘Some Good News’ to become official series by CBS

Actor and comedian John Krasinski’s web series “Some Good News” was sold to CBS after a massive bidding war, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Could not be more excited and proud to be partnering with CBS/Viacom to be able to bring Some Good News to so many more people!” Krasinski said Thursday in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter.

“From the first episode, our goal was to create a news show dedicated entirely to good news. Never did I expect to be joining the ranks of such a historic news organization as CBS.”

The company’s streaming service, CBS All Access, will have the first window for episodes before moving to the company’s linear affiliated networks. 

Krasinski self-financed and self-produced the Youtube series, which has garnered 2.56 million subscribers, and up to 17 million views in some episodes.

Krasinski will still be an executive producer of the show, and though he will not be the host of the new episodes, he will maintain some semblance of an on-camera presence, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The new host will be named at a later date.

Krasinski was originally hesitant to sell the series, sources told the Hollywood Reporter. It’s still not clear for how much the series was purchased.
