Cruz: Obama’s depiction of foreign affairs is ‘fantasy’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said President Obama’s foreign policy comments in last week’s State of the Union address were fantasy.

“I wish we all lived in the utopian world that President Obama painted last week,” Cruz said. “That picture belongs far more in the world of fantasy than reality.”

{mosads}Cruz said Obama’s rosy view of the Middle East was incorrect and that several opportunities have been missed by the administration to make things better in countries such as Syria and Iran.

“The claim that we are negotiating with Iran from a strong view with confidence is a blinkered reality,” Cruz said. “Capitulation is not victory.”

Cruz criticized Obama for asking Congress not to pass more sanctions against Iran at least until the conclusion of a recent six-month negotiation plan. The administration has worked out a deal with the new Iranian leader to have the country slowly turn over nuclear materials in an effort to thwart an operational weapons program.

Cruz also said Obama should be doing more to support the people of Ukraine by offering a free trade agreement in order to break the countries’ tie to Russia.

“If you’re standing in the frozen streets of Kiev being beaten … empty generalities from the president do you little good,” Cruz said.

Cruz is considered a contender for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.
