Tuesday: Firearms in the House, farm bill in the Senate

The House meets in the afternoon on legislation that tries to ensure hunters, fishermen and sport shooters have access to federal land.

Members will consider the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act, H.R. 3590. The bill is made up of several different firearms-related bills, and requires federal agencies to promote these activities on federal land, and also legalizes the import of polar bear trophies from Canada that were taken before polar bears were listed as an endangered species.

{mosads}House Republicans have made 11 amendments in order. The House will start the day by passing the rule for the bill, then debating it and moving to amendments.

Amendments that need roll call votes will be held over until Wednesday, which is when the bill will likely pass.

The Senate starts at 10 a.m., and after its regular caucus lunches, it will return after 2 p.m. to pass the House-Senate farm bill agreement, H.R. 2642.

Senators voted 72-22 on Monday to end debate on the bill. Senate passage will send the bill to President Obama for his signature into law.
