49ers fan in coma after attack outside NFC title game

A fan of the San Francisco 49ers is in a coma after he was attacked outside the NFC championship game on Sunday.

Daniel Luna was found injured in the parking lot of SoFi Stadium during the game against the Rams, Inglewood Police Lt. Geoffrey Meeks said, the Los Angeles Times reported

Luna, a 40-year-old restaurant owner from Oakland, is currently at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in a medically induced coma due to the attack.

Meeks said Luna was in a 49ers jersey during the incident, with Vernon Hill, a friend of his, telling the outlet he still had his belongings on him after the attack.

The police said they could not confirm if the assault was a robbery and have no evidence Luna was attacked due to his support for the 49ers.

The medical center believes “he suffered from an assault at the stadium to his upper body and facial area,” Meeks said.

“We are relying heavily on video to try to identify the people involved,” he added. “We are going to leave no stone unturned.”

Luna attended the game alone after others who were set to go canceled on the event, according to Hill.

The Los Angeles Times noted the police department did not release a statement about the attack until the outlet attempted to confirm Hill’s story.

“We are aware and saddened by the incident. Our thoughts are with Mr. Luna’s friends and family during this difficult time. We are working with law enforcement officials in their investigation,” SoFi Stadium said in a statement.

The Hill has reached out to the police department for comment.
