Kremlin doesn’t find Trump’s Clinton ad funny
The Kremlin on Thursday responded to a campaign ad from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump that used footage of Russian President Vladimir Putin to criticize Hillary Clinton.
Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on a conference call that “we are very negative about it,” according to Bloomberg.
{mosads}“It’s not a secret for us that demonization of Russia is, sadly, a mandatory feature of the American election campaign,” he added.
The 15-second video posted to Trump’s Instagram account includes Putin showing off his martial arts skills, portraying him as one of the United States’s “toughest opponents.”
It then shows a clip of Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner, barking like a dog before cutting to video of Putin laughing, with text stating, “We don’t need to be a punchline!”
The video of Putin laughing was taken from an interview several years ago, while the clip of Clinton imitating a barking dog was from last month when she was mocking Republicans.
A pro-Clinton super-PAC fired back at Trump with their own ad on Thursday.
Putin called Trump a “bright and talented person” during his news conference in December. Trump, who has repeatedly said he’d get along with Putin, said it was a “great honor” to receive the compliment.
