GoFundMe for children of parents killed in El Paso shooting doubles goal

More than $10,000 has been raised to fund expenses for the children of two parents who died while shielding their 2-month-old son from gunfire during a mass shooting Saturday at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.

A GoFundMe account set up in honor of Andre and Jordan Anchondo, two of 22 people killed in the shooting, more than doubled its goal of raising $5,000.

Less than a day after it was posted, the page raised $10,721 from 248 donors.{mosads}

The account, set up by relative Tito Anchondo, says that all money raised will go toward future expenses for the Anchondos’ three children: their 2-month-old son, Paul, who survived the shooting, and two daughters, Skylin and Victoria.

“Not only did Jordan & Andre love each other endlessly, but the children were so loved by them as well,” a description of the fundraiser reads. “Any amount of donation is a blessing, in order to help both families during this tragic time.”

Relatives told CNN the couple was shopping for back-to-school supplies after dropping their 5-year-old daughter at cheer practice. During the shooting, family said Jordan shielded Paul from gunfire as Andre jumped in front to shield Jordan.

“The baby still had her blood on him. You watch these things and see these things and you never think this is going to happen to your family,” relative Elizabeth Terry told CNN. “How do parents go school shopping and then die shielding their baby from bullets?”

On Monday afternoon El Paso police reported two additional fatalities, bringing the total to 22.

A separate shooting in Dayton, Ohio, on Sunday killed at least nine people.
