Police say two more people have died from El Paso shooting, raising total to 22

Two more people have died from Saturday’s mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, police announced Monday, bringing the total fatalities from the shooting at a Walmart up to 22.

“Sad to report that the number of fatalities increased by one,” the El Paso Police Department tweeted. “Victim passed early this morning at the hospital.”

“Just after 1000 another victim passed away,” the department tweeted a little over an hour later. “The total is now at 22.”

Dozens more were wounded in the attack.{mosads}

Patrick Wood Crusius, the suspected gunman, reportedly drove eight hours from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to the city, which is directly across the border from Mexico’s Ciudad Juárez and has a high concentration of Hispanic people.

He allegedly wrote a racist, anti-immigrant manifesto before the attack, which described fears of a Latino “invasion.”

Crusius was booked into El Paso County Jail early Sunday on a capital murder charge, and police said he has been cooperating with authorities since his arrest. 

The shooting is being investigated as a hate crime. The FBI’s Domestic Terrorism-Hate Crimes Fusion Cell is assisting local authorities in the investigation.
