Dem super-PAC launches ad campaign against vulnerable Senate Republicans

A major Democratic super-PAC launched an ad campaign Thursday against vulnerable Republicans in the Senate, with the first ads targeting Sen. Pat Toomey (R) in Pennsylvania.

{mosads}The Senate Majority PAC, which is run by allies of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), announced a $1.5 million digital campaign with ads running through Facebook, Twitter and Google.

The first in the series will target Toomey, who faces tough reelection prospects in Democrat-leaning Pennsylvania, before moving on to other battleground states.

The ads will say that Toomey has “voted with partisan Republicans 93% of the time, and for the Koch Brothers’ special interest agenda 96% of the time, including 100% of the time in 2015.”

“The Republican agenda puts special interests and partisan ideology ahead of what’s best for everyday Americans and Pat Toomey is the poster boy for those misplaced priorities,” said Shripal Shah, a spokesman for Senate Majority PAC.

The super-PAC, which will likely be the biggest-spending outside group seeking to help Democrats reclaim a majority in the upper chamber, has already launched ads targeting Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), who similarly faces a tough race in a critical swing-state.

Still, Democrats acknowledge they’ll likely be outspent by Republicans in key races in which they face well-funded incumbents in states where outside conservative groups, like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Club for Growth, are already spending heavily.

Republicans are defending 24 seats in the Senate this cycle, compared to only 10 for Democrats. If Democrats can net five seats, they’ll reclaim a majority in the upper chamber.
