Poll: Clinton, Trump tied nationally
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are deadlocked one week from Election Day, according to a new national poll.
Clinton edges Trump by less than 1 percentage point, well within the margin of error of the survey released Tuesday by the right-leaning Red Oak Strategic.
{mosads}Clinton takes 37.1 percent, compared to Trump’s 36.6 percent. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson next grabs 6 percent, while Green Party nominee Jill Stein nets 2 percent. Eighteen percent remain undecided on a White House hopeful.
Clinton, the Democratic nominee, led Trump, the GOP nominee, by 3 points, 34 percent to 31 percent, last month in Red Oak Strategic’s previous national survey.
Red Oak Strategic conducted its latest survey of 943 likely voters via online interviews from Oct. 27 to 28. It has a margin of error of 3.7 points.
Recent polling at both the national and state levels finds a tightening race between Clinton and Trump.
FBI Director James Comey sent Congress a letter last Friday saying the bureau had found new emails that may be “pertinent” to its investigation of Clinton’s use of a private email server from her time as secretary of State.
The new communications reportedly emerged during a separate probe of former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), the estranged husband of longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
Clinton on Monday dismissed the new investigation, insisting it would find no misconduct on her part or her associates’ part.
“I’m sure a lot of you may be asking what this new email story is about and why in the world the FBI would decide to jump into an election with no evidence of wrongdoing with just days to go,” she said during a rally in Kent, Ohio. “That’s a good question.
“Now they apparently want to look at emails of one of my staffers, and by all means, they should look at them.
“And I am sure they will reach the same conclusion they did when they looked at my emails for the last year. There is no case here.”
Clinton leads Trump by about 2 points nationally, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
