Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Tuesday hinted that he might consider Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) as a running mate if he’s the nominee.

Sanders specifically noted that “it’s a little bit early to be speculating” on a running mate, but then brought up Warren’s name unprompted.

{mosads}“Elizabeth Warren, I think, has been a real champion of standing up for working families, taking on Wall Street,” he said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The Warren talk came after the show’s hosts asked Sanders whether he would commit to picking a woman running mate.

“I’m not going to commit. You have to look at the best candidates you can,” the Vermont senator said.

“I think the women of this country — the people of this country understand that it would be a great idea to have a woman as vice president. It’s something I would give serious thought to,” Sanders continued.

“There are fantastic women who have been active in all kinds of fights who I think would make great vice presidential candidates.”

Warren has avoided endorsing either Sanders or rival Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential race. The senator, very popular with the party base, has been courted by both campaigns.
