Kasich praises Carson: ‘He held his head high’

Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Wednesday afternoon praised Ben Carson amid signs that the retired neurosurgeon could soon exit the White House race.
Speaking to supporters in Michigan, Kasich said he spoke earlier in the day with Carson, “who announced today that he’s suspending his campaign.”

{mosads}”I think he held his held high and he’s a very, very good man,” Kasich said.

Carson told supporters in a statement on Wednesday afternoon that he doesn’t see a “political path forward” for his candidacy in light of disappointing Super Tuesday results, though he didn’t officially suspend his campaign. He said he will skip the GOP debate Thursday night in Detroit.

The statement Wednesday was widely viewed as an indication Carson is dropping out of the race. He’ll be speaking Friday in the Washington area.

Despite lagging polling figures, there will certainly be a battle for the votes of Carson supporters. A poll released this week also found Carson leading rivals as a potential running mate for Trump.
