Albright: Trump ‘scary’ on foreign policy

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on Wednesday said GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has frightening ideas on foreign policy, ones that would weaken the U.S. on the global stage.

“Whenever anything is said by Donald Trump, it is scary,” she told hosts Alisyn Camerota and Chris Cuomo on CNN’s “New Day.” “In terms of what he thinks he’s going to do or [a] lack of understanding. The discussion has been about walls and keeping people out and not about what makes America great.

Albright argued that Trump’s popularity with voters has other nations concerned he could fundamentally alter their relationships with the U.S.

“They’re worried — they’re definitely worried,” said Albright, who has endorsed Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton. “What they want is the goodness of American involvement with other countries, not threats about bullying and bombing and building walls and scaring people.

“You cannot exist in this world alone. You cannot exist by using all kinds of language that doesn’t make any sense when you’re in diplomatic negotiations.”

Albright charged that Clinton’s own service as secretary of State makes her the best White House hopeful for handling international relations.

“We have an opportunity, as never before, to have somebody who is really ready to be commander in chief and president because of her experience,” she said. “I know that Hillary is prepared to argue her points and make clear what her policies are. She wants to bring down barriers and really explain what needs to happen.”
