Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is projected to win the Rhode Island primary.

The Associated Press called the race for Sanders at about 9:10 p.m. Eastern, after polls closed in the state at 8 p.m.

A poll released Sunday showed Sanders ahead of rival Hillary Clinton by 4 points — making Rhode Island the only state voting Tuesday where polls showed him with an edge.

{mosads}The state set up nicely for him, as it has a big population of white liberals, and independent or unaffiliated voters were allowed to cast ballots in the Democratic primary.

Still, there were only 24 pledged delegates at stake, so Sanders will only gain a small amount of ground on Clinton.

She entered the day with 1,428 pledged delegates to Sanders’s 1,153.

Voters are also casting ballots in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut and Delaware on Tuesday. Clinton is favored to take a majority of the delegates up for grabs on the day.
