Man charged after allegedly attacking two Asian women in Baltimore

A man was charged in Baltimore after he allegedly attacked two Asian women in a liquor store.

Daryl Doles was arrested for allegedly attacking two Asian women early Tuesday morning at a liquor store where they worked, police said in a statement to The Hill.

The two women were closing the store when Doles walked in and started attacking one of them, video showed, according to NBC News.

There was another man at the scene, but he left and was not shown on camera attacking the women.

Doles, a Black man, held down one woman and hit her in the head with the cinder block until the second woman came over to help.

The man overpowered the two women and hit them both in the head multiple times with the cinder block before he ran away, the video showed.

Police said the two women were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital and that Doles was caught and arrested after the attack.

“While we are still learning the facts, one thing is clear: Such shocking acts of violence against fellow members of our neighborhoods cannot go on,” Robert Hur, the attorney for the victims, said. “The family is grateful for the outpouring of sympathy and support.”

Hurr is the former U.S. attorney for Maryland and the head of Maryland’s Hate Crime Task Force, NBC News noted.

A GoFundMe was started by the son of one victim and the nephew of the other, John Yun, for the medical bills from the incident.

The GoFundMe showed pictures of the victims, who were bruised and swollen. Yun said his aunt needed more than 25 stitches on her head where the man hit her with the cinder block.

“It’s just another example of these violent outbursts and attacks on Asians all across the country,” Gov. Larry Hogan (R) said about the attack. “It was pretty hard to watch the two elderly women being smashed in the head with a brick.”

Attacks on Asian Americans have been seen across the country, with the number going up significantly in New York City this past year.

The Hill has reached out to Hogan for comment.
