Khizr Khan to campaign for Clinton in Va.

Khizr Khan, the father of a slain U.S. soldier, will hit the campaign trail for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in the battleground state of Virginia, according to the Los Angeles Times.

{mosads}With just two weeks until Election Day and early voting already underway in many places including the Old Dominion, Khan plans to visit a mosque to talk with veterans and community leaders and also make stops at a restaurant and a volunteer event, according to the Times.

Khan, whose son, Army Capt. Humayun Khan, was killed in 2004 while serving in Iraq, has sparred with Donald Trump and gave a fierce rebuke of the GOP presidential nominee at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this summer.

In the wake of his fiery convention speech, Khan and his wife gave a handful of interviews condemning Trump’s rhetoric about Muslims. But the Gold Star family eventually said they were done giving interviews.

But last week, Khan stepped back in the political spotlight to star in a new Clinton ad that will air in several battleground states and told the story of his son, who rushed a suicide bomber and died while saving his unit. He was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

“He was 27 years old and he was a Muslim American,” Khan says in the ad. “I want to ask Mr. Trump — would my son have a place in your America?”

Clinton goes into the final two weeks of the election with a comfortable lead in the polls, and most recent surveys in Virginia show her with a double-digit edge over Trump. The RealClearPolitics average of polls has her up 10 points in Virginia as of Tuesday.
