Poll: Clinton leads Trump by 7 in Michigan

Hillary Clinton is 7 points ahead of Donald Trump in Michigan after their first presidential debate, according to a new poll.

Clinton tops Trump 42 percent to 35 percent in the Glengariff Group Inc. survey out Friday, which was commissioned by The Detroit News and WDIV-TV.

{mosads}Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson next receives 9 percent, followed by Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein’s 3 percent.

One percent support another candidate in the Great Lakes State, while 10 percent remain undecided or refused an answer.

The Detroit News on Friday added Clinton maintains her 7-point edge in a head-to-head matchup with Trump.

Pollsters found Michigan’s likely voters think Clinton won last Monday’s debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. Fifty-two percent think Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, emerged victorious over Trump in the event.

Twenty percent select Trump instead, while 5 percent remain unsure and 23 percent picked neither candidate.

Friday’s results additionally found respondents believe Clinton is more qualified for the presidency than Trump.

Sixty-three percent say Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, is unqualified for the Oval Office.

Fifty-seven percent, in contrast, say Clinton is suited for the White House once President Obama completes his second term.

The Glengariff Group Inc. conducted its latest sampling of 600 likely voters in Michigan via interviews from Sept. 27-28. It has a 4 percent margin of error.

Polling released since Clinton and Trump’s clash shows the former getting a slight boost with voters at both the national and state levels.

A Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey issued Thursday, for example, found Clinton leading Trump by 4 points nationally.

A WBUR poll published Friday, meanwhile, discovered the former secretary of State topping Trump by 7 points in New Hampshire.

Clinton leads Trump by about 3 points nationwide, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
