Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) says he will support Donald Trump as the party’s presidential nominee.

“I always said I would support the nominee,” Burr tweeted. “I look forward to working with Mr. Trump at the top of the ticket and to maintaining a [Republican] Senate.”

{mosads}His comments come after Trump won the Indiana primary on Tuesday, leading to rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich dropping out of the race.

Burr has generally sidestepped questions about the fight for his party’s nomination, as he faces a reelection battle of his own in November.

He added Wednesday that “there will not be a third term for the Clinton/Obama administration in the White House.”

Democrats have raced to link GOP incumbents to Trump and his controversial policies after the businessman locked down his spot as the party’s presumptive nominee.

Campaigns for GOP Sens. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) and Ron Johnson (Wis.), who face tough reelection bids, said Wednesday they will support Trump as the nominee.

Republicans are defending 24 Senate seats in November, including a handful in states that President Obama carried in 2008 and 2012.

Burr currently leads Democratic challenger Deborah Ross in polling, according to RealClearPolitics’ polling average. While Ross narrowly outraised him during the first quarter of the year, Burr is leading in cash on hand.

Trump won North Carolina’s primary in March with more than 40 percent of the vote.
