Doctor’s note: Sanders in ‘very good health’

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, the oldest of the 2016 field, released a letter from his physician Thursday saying that the 74-year-old is in “very good health” and “without limitation.”

The letter signed by Brian Monahan, Sanders’s attending physician in the Senate, noted that the Vermont senator has previously been treated for conditions including gout and laryngitis.

{mosads}Sanders’ physician noted that he has “no history of cardiovascular disease” and drinks alcohol infrequently but does not use tobacco and has his recommended vaccinations.

“You are in overall very good health and active in your professional work, and recreational lifestyle without limitation,” Monahan wrote in the letter, which was dated Jan. 20.

Candidates regularly release their medical records to show themselves to be in fair condition to enter the presidency should they get elected, and Sanders said earlier this week his own were forthcoming.

Sanders is the oldest of those running for president in either party. Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, 68, released a letter from her doctor last summer saying she was “fit to serve.”

Donald Trump, 69, released a statement from his doctor last month saying that the celebrity real estate tycoon has “extraordinary” stamina and physical strength. Trump’s doctor said he would be “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”

The release of Sanders’s medical records comes after Clinton ally David Brock, the head of a pro-Clinton super-PAC, reportedly planned to demand that Sanders do so before the Iowa caucuses on Monday.
