Clinton email release brings classified total to 1,340

The latest batch of emails from Hillary Clinton’s private server released Friday contains 66 messages deemed classified at some level, according to a State Department count, bringing the total to over 1,300.

{mosads}Of the 66, all but one are labeled “confidential,” the lowest classification level. The remaining email is labeled “secret,” the second-highest level of classification.

The State Department has now found 1,340 emails on Clinton’s server deemed classified. Seven of those are labeled “secret.”

The State Department released 3,007 emails on Friday morning. Eighty-two percent of Clinton’s emails have now been made public, with the rest scheduled to be released at the end of the month.

Unlike previous releases, the current batch of emails in State’s online reading room was not searchable by subject, sender or recipient, as reported by Fox News.

One email in the release shows Clinton expressing surprise over a staffer who used a private email address to write a brief on Libyan policy after the fall of Moammar Gadhafi.

“Is he NEA [Near Eastern Affairs] currently? Or was he in Embassy? I was surprised that he used personal email account if he is at State,” she wrote in the email dated Feb. 27, 2011.

Clinton also received an email from Bob Bergdahl, father of Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. Army soldier who was held captive by the Taliban for nearly five years.

“Our Nation is stumbling through a very volatile world,” Bergdahl wrote in the email. “The ‘Crusade’ paradigm will never be forgotten in this part of the world and we force our Diplomats to carry a lot of baggage around while walking on eggshells.”

Clinton directed her assistant, Robert Russo, to “pls prepare [a] response” following the email.

Bowe Bergdahl was released in May 2014 in a prisoner swap.

Republicans say the former secretary of State’s email server may have compromised classified information and posed a threat to national security.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) said the email scandal is evidence that Clinton cannot be trusted to be president.

“The more we learn about Hillary Clinton’s secret server the worse it gets,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement. “Now with dozens of additional emails found to be classified, we know Hillary Clinton exposed classified material in more than 1,300 messages, including information that was classified at the time it was sent as well at some of the highest levels.”

“Hillary Clinton’s pursuit of secrecy at the expense of national security was undeniably reckless and shows she cannot be trusted in the White House,” he added.

Clinton, the Democratic primary front-runner, has said she never knowingly transmitted or received classified information on her private server.
