WATCH: GOP lawmaker predicts end of extreme left, right

A New York Republican lawmaker is predicting extreme far left and far right stances are nearing an end, and President Trump’s recent deal with Democrats is just the latest example of compromise.

{mosads}“At the end of the day, the extremes day in the sun is coming to an end,” Rep. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) told The Hill said when asked about the hardline elements of his own party being unwilling to support bipartisan compromise.  

Reed’s comments follow Trump’s deal struck with Democrats for a three-month extension on the debt limit coupled with hurricane funding. 

Some insiders have expressed concern that the deal signals a future of a new, third party or a lack of party loyalty by the president, but Reed says he doesn’t view it that way.

“That doesn’t concern me,” Reed said. “[Trump is] reaching out to practical governing members who recognize the old adage where 80 percent … should be celebrated as a victory on both sides.” 

“It’s the same on the left too, when you see the extreme left movement represented (by) Antifa, you see the Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren faction of the Democratic party, we have our own extreme issue on our side,” Reed, co-chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus noted. 

Reed continued, saying he predicts that Trump will move for an agenda that benefits the “American People” and that Trump is focused on “listening to them to move the ball forward.”
