WATCH: Dems want to help eligible residents become US citizens
The chairwoman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus says Democrats want to work with Republicans to help eligible U.S. residents become citizens.
Democrats are hosting events to spotlight “Citizenship Day” on Saturday. It’s a day meant to highlight the positives of becoming a U.S. citizen.
“We have to actually get folks to talk about things in way that doesn’t move us to places where we’re divided,” Grisham said. “We hope that this will lend itself to then having bipartisan, sort of state efforts that are really, really about citizenship not about partisan politics.”
House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Joseph Crowley (N.Y.) plans to participate in a Citizenship Day expo in his Queens-based district.
Crowley says that the event is for individuals to learn the “next steps in terms of citizenship.”
