WATCH: GOP senator says healthcare reform started ‘in the wrong way’
Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) says Republicans began the ObamaCare repeal-and-replace effort in the “wrong way,” cautioning against “artificial” timelines for passing legislation in the Senate.
“This began in the wrong way, let’s face it,” Corker said in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K Hooper.
“It was all about tax reform. I think everybody’s figured that out now,” he added.
GOP leaders had pushed for passage of healthcare reform before tackling tax reform, another top priority.
Corker, Tennessee’s former commissioner of finance, said that the Senate will not be rushed into producing a healthcare bill after the House narrowly passed a bill last week along party lines.
“This is not going to be some effort to move us on to tax reform. We are going to do this the right way, so there are no artificial deadlines,” he said.
