WATCH: GOP lawmakers say Susan Rice should be investigated
A handful of GOP lawmakers say that the House Intelligence Committee should investigate former Obama administration national security adviser Susan Rice’s reported decision to unmask U.S. citizens caught up in intelligence gathering.
“When you’re in position like that and you have responsibility, constitutional responsibility, legal responsibility, you do not take things upon yourself to drive national security in a political direction,” Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) said in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper.
“This is exactly what was done, whether it was intentional, or somebody else had that idea,” he said.
{mosads}Rice on Tuesday denied inappropriately asking for the names of Trump associates to be identified in raw intelligence reports, which allies of President Trump have charged was politically motivated. Rice denied that allegation.
Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) said the House panel and the Justice Department should determine whether Rice committed a crime, as President Trump asserted in an interview with The New York Times on Wednesday.
“I think the committee process can flesh that out and working with the Justice Department, we’ll see what actually happens,” Collins said in an interview with The Hill.
