The House Armed Services Committee is set to hold a hearing with top Pentagon officials on Thursday about the role of the U.S. military in civilian law enforcement.
Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley are set to testify before the panel.
The hearing comes after President Trump threatened to deploy active-duty troops to quell protests across the country following the death of George Floyd and after U.S. Park Police forcibly cleared protesters in Lafayette Square outside the White House so Trump could walk to a photo op at nearby St. John’s Episcopal Church.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
