GOP lawmaker: We must end ObamaCare ‘bailout’

A House Republican lawmaker says his leaders should make it a top priority to end ObamaCare “bailouts.”

Rep. Tim Griffin’s (R-Ark.) bill, which would to eliminate ObamaCare risk corridor payments, has attracted a lot of support among the GOP base and on conservative talk radio.

He told The Hill that it’s unclear whether his party leadership will include his measure in the House GOP’s ObamaCare replacement bill.

“We’ll have to wait and see. I will tell you that the issue of the bailout needs to be in there,” Griffin said.

The Ways and Means Committee member has garnered 61 GOP co-sponsors for his bill, “The Taxpayer Bailout Prevention Act,” while the companion bill in the upper chamber, sponsored by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has 13 co-sponsors.

Democrats note that Republicans included risk corridor provisions in their Medicare prescription drug benefit that was signed into law in 2003.
