Stewart blasts ‘piss-poor’ NJ corruption

In a bombastic rant, “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart on Wednesday railed against New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) and his administration for their “piss-poor” corruption unworthy of New Jersey’s storied crime history.

Stewart spent the first half of his show addressing the emails sent by one of Christie’s staff members last year about closing lanes for four days on the highly trafficked George Washington Bridge.

{mosads}”As a guy who grew up in New Jersey, I’m disappointed, ashamed of the state I grew up in,” Stewart said in a heavy New Jersey accent. “Political payback through traffic congestion? To see New Jersey sink to such a piss-poor, third-rate quality of corruption. This is New Jersey! A state renowned for its piss-rich, first-rate corruption.”

Stewart then went on to note highlights in the state’s long history of political wrong-doing, a past that has made New Jersey the poster child for crime in shows like “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire.”

The emails suggest lanes on the bridge were closed as an act of retribution against a New Jersey mayor who refused to endorse Christie in the 2013 gubernatorial race.

Stewart did give Christie credit for his level of sarcasm in dealing with the allegations, saying his lack of apology is befitting of the state and a true New Jersey scandal.
