Watch: Trump paints picture of GOP unity after meetings with lawmakers

Former President Trump made a trip to Washington on Thursday to meet with members of the House and Senate — striking a unified tone with Republican lawmakers as the November election inches closer.

Following the two closed-door meetings, he spoke briefly to the press, saying the GOP is in agreement on “just about everything.” The former president also said he would be able to “work out” any differences with the lawmakers he has notably butted heads with.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who has had a rocky relationship with the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, shook hands with Trump and called the meeting “positive.” It was the first time the two had met since their falling out after the 2020 election.

The visit also marked Trump’s first meeting with lawmakers since he was convicted on 34 felony counts in his Manhattan hush money trial late last month and comes as Republicans in both chambers begin to plot an ambitious agenda if he is reelected and they control the House and Senate.
