House to vote on averting partial government shutdown: Watch live
The House will vote Wednesday on a package of six funding bills for fiscal 2024 to avert a partial government shutdown at the end of the week.
The legislation represents a compromise between the House and Senate reached Sunday, and it still will have to be approved by the Senate.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) supports the package, but conservatives have criticized the removal of social policy measures opposed by Democrats.
The House is expected to pass the bills, sending them on to the Senate. In the upper chamber, they face opposition from Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) because of a controversial provision on gun access.
The House vote is expected to take place after 3:30 p.m. EST.
