House Oversight Committee debates contempt of Congress resolution for Hunter Biden: Watch live

The House Oversight Committee, under the leadership of Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), is expected to vote Wednesday to bring a contempt of Congress resolution against Hunter Biden to the House floor.

Republicans are moving the resolution forward because of Hunter Biden’s refusal to respond to a subpoena for a closed-door session of questioning.

Hunter Biden and his legal counsel maintain testimony in a private hearing would lead Comer and other Republicans to spin what is said behind closed doors to their advantage. He has argued he is willing to sit for an open hearing.

Republicans are investigating him as they consider an impeachment case against President Biden.

The Oversight Committee hearing is one of two related to contempt of Congress charges today; the other will take place in the Judiciary Committee.

Proceedings are expected to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
