White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is delivering a daily press briefing Thursday afternoon, along with National Economic Council Director Lael Brainard and national security spokesperson John Kirby.
The update follows an announcement Wednesday evening that United Auto Workers (UAW) and Ford reached a tentative labor agreement, ending six weeks of strikes at the company. President Biden, who walked the picket lines with union workers last month, applauded the deal.
On Wednesday night, at least 16 people were killed in Lewiston, Maine, in a mass shooting incident at two locations, and the suspect remains at large. Biden, who called the incident a “horrific attack,” spoke by phone to Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D), Maine Sens. Angus King (I) and Susan Collins (R), and Maine Rep. Jared Golden (D) about the incident, according to the White House. He offered full federal support.
The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT.
