Watch live: White House press briefing
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is delivering a daily press briefing Tuesday afternoon.
President Biden’s public agenda focused on science and technology so far this week, with the announcement of 31 “tech hubs,” communities around the country targeted for federal funding to spur local development in that sector. Earlier Tuesday, Biden was scheduled to present the National Medal of Science and National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
But reporters at the Monday event had questions about the Israel-Hamas conflict, not domestic economic policy. In response to one, Biden seemed to set out a condition that cease-fire talks would be contingent upon release of the hostages held by Hamas. So far, four hostages, including two Americans have been freed, but more than 200 remain captive.
The briefing is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
