Poll: Sanders is most popular senator in any home state

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is the most popular senator out of senators in their home states, a new poll found.

A Morning Consult poll shows that Sanders has the highest approval rating out of senators in their home states, with a 75 percent approval rating in Vermont.

{mosads}Sanders has maintained this high level of popularity in recent months, earning the same approval rating in an April Morning Consult poll that also found he was the most popular senator at the time.

Sanders has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration and GOP leadership, holding rallies across the country in protest of the GOP’s healthcare bill in the Senate. He will travel to Iowa to promote his new book new month, creating speculation over whether he will make a second presidential run for 2020.

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) came in after Sanders at second with 69 percent, followed by fellow Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono (D) at 67 percent.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) had the lowest approval rating at 37 percent, and Sen. Gary Peters (R-Mich) had the second lowest with 38 percent, as well as the highest percentage of constituents who didn’t know or had no opinion on their senator at 33 percent.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had the highest disapproval rating at 48 percent, followed by Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) 47 percent.

Morning Consult interviewed more than 140,000 registered voters across the country from April 1 to June 18.
