New regs for Monday: Guidance, train crews and imports

In Monday’s edition of the Federal Register, the Food and Drug Administration will release draft guidance to help food producers determine whether they must follow sweeping new food safety rules, the Federal Railroad Administration will give the public more time to comment on new rules for crewmembers on moving trains and the Energy Department will give the public more time to comment on a whether importers should be required to notify the agency before bringing products in that are subject to energy conservation standards.

What to look for:

Guidance: The Food and Drug Administration is releasing draft guidance to help animal and human food producers determine whether they are a “qualified facility” that’s subject to sweeping new food safety rules.

{mosads}The rules aim to protect people and animals from foodborne illness by forcing manufacturers to implement preventative control to minimize the risk of contamination.

The draft guidance also explains how a company would attest to its status as a “qualified facility.” The public has 180 days to comment on the draft guidance.

Train crew: The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is giving the public more time to comment on its proposal to require a minimum of two crewmembers on moving trains and establish minimum requirements for the roles and responsibilities of the second train crewmember.

The public now has until June 15 to submit comments on the rule first proposed in March.

Imports: The Energy Department is giving the public more time to comment on a proposed rule that would require importers to notify the agency before bringing products in that are subject to energy conservation standards.

The rule was first proposed in December. The public has until June 15 to submit comments.
