House task force to look into overreach by Obama
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) on Tuesday announced the creation of the Task Force on Executive Overreach, to examine what some have viewed as overreach by President Obama.
The House Judiciary Committee said that the task force will study the increase in presidential orders and actions, as well as their impact on the ability of Congress to conduct oversight of the executive branch.
{mosads}In a press release, Goodlatte said the Constitution is clear: it is the role of Congress to make laws, the Judiciary to interpret them and the president to enforce them.
“In recent decades, however, presidents of both parties have aggrandized their power and usurped Congress to legislate from the Oval Office,” he said.
“This is not a Republican or Democratic issue; it’s an American issue and touches the very core of our system of government.”
The committee said the task force will look for tools Congress has at its disposal to restore the proper balance of power, make recommendations where deficiencies are found and offer legislative solutions.
The task force will be chaired by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa).
