President Obama is extending the national emergency declaration for weapons of mass destruction, finding that the “proliferation of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons” remains a threat to the United States.
“The proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy and economy of the United States,” according to a notice published in the Federal Register on Monday.
The national emergency, which was first declared on Nov. 14, 1994, was set to expire this week if the president did not act.
