Second list of court documents connected with Jeffrey Epstein unsealed

The second tranche of documents in a lawsuit connected to Jeffrey Epstein were unsealed Thursday, continuing to reveal names of people associated with the high-profile sex trafficker and socialite.

Thursday’s release consisted of less than half the number of documents included in Wednesday’s unsealing of about 40 documents. It included 19 documents — more than 300 pages — mostly of legal discussion and deposition regarding a previously-settled civil suit against Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former associate and girlfriend.

The Thursday release did not include many new names to be unsealed, much like the first batch of documents Wednesday. In total, the documents are expected to include about 200 names that were previously unknown.

Being named in the suit does not mean the person is accused of wrongdoing, but that they were associated with Epstein or Maxwell at some point.

Many of the names in the Wednesday documents were already publicly known or previously reported through other cases, such as Maxwell’s criminal trial in 2022.

The documents are part of a 2015 civil suit brought by one of the victims seeking damages against Maxwell. It was settled in 2017, but the plaintiff had fought for years for the documents to be unredacted and released to the public.

Epstein died in a Manhattan jail in 2019, and Maxwell remains in prison after being sentenced to 20 years for sex trafficking in 2022.
