Trump jokes about flying to Russia after bond set in Georgia case

Former President Trump joked about fleeing to Russia after his bond was set at $200,000 in the Georgia case over his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Trump said in a Truth Social post on Tuesday that Fulton County, Ga., District Attorney Fani Willis (D), who is overseeing the case, “insisted” on setting a bond

“I assume, therefore, that she thought I was a ‘flight’ risk – I’d fly far away, maybe to Russia, Russia, Russia, share a gold domed suite with Vladimir, never to be seen or heard from again,” he said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Would I be able to take my very ‘understated’ airplane with the gold TRUMP affixed for all to see. Probably not, I’d be much better off flying commercial – I’m sure nobody would recognize me!”

Trump is set to turn himself in to authorities Thursday in Fulton County, where he is facing 13 charges, including racketeering, conspiracy to commit forgery and solicitation of a public officer to violate their oath.

He has maintained his innocence in this case and the other three he is facing in other jurisdictions and denounced all the charges as politically motivated.

Trump’s post online comes after he was ordered to not intimidate any of his 18 co-defendants or any witnesses, including through posts on social media, and not to contact any co-defendant or witness except through their attorneys.

“The Defendant shall perform no act to intimidate any person known to him or her to be a codefendant or witness in this case or to otherwise obstruct the administration of justice,” the order states.

The order was more detailed for Trump than those for the other defendants were, also covering an “indirect threat of any nature.”

The 19 defendants in the case have until noon on Friday to turn themselves in.
